When driving around these parts you can’t miss the horse studs and the wooden paddock fencing. A lot of money is lurking behind the gates and green pastures!

Heading away from the dam we chose to take the back road to Aberdeen, just to the south of Scone. Some rolling green hills in the upper reaches of the Hunter River, below the Glenbawn Dam walls.

Aberdeen is very Scottish and they have an annual highland games festival, like a number of other towns along the highway.

There is also a very good pie shop, appropriately named ‘Croft’s Pies’. Enjoyed one in the park. Very tasty, maybe the best yet! Will Scottish readers get the ‘Croft’s’ reference?

We circled back to Scone later in the afternoon for a little sight seeing n the town.

We took a different road back to the dam, crossed a dicky bridge, one vehicle at a time with a 4 tonne limit. So we made it, a tonne or so to spare! But more great countryside. See you next time, maybe ‘fush n chups’ time at last!
